Our History
DeLoach-McKerley-Prescott Funeral Home & Cremation Service has served the families of Waynesboro, Burke County, and surrounding communities since 1941. What began as a partnership between C. W. Hopper and G. Pratt DeLoach at the Masonic Temple on South Liberty Street has grown into a trusted name in funeral service across the region.
After gaining experience with G. A. Lewis at Lewis Funeral Home, Hopper and DeLoach established their own firm rooted in professionalism and community involvement. Alongside the funeral home, the DeLoach family expanded their service to the community through United Family Life Insurance Company and the Rose Shoppe Florist, reflecting their deep commitment to local families.
In 1965, the funeral home relocated to the historic Skinner House on North Liberty Street. Following Mr. Hopper’s retirement in 1968, George DeLoach joined his father in leading the firm. After the passing of G. Pratt DeLoach in 1997, longtime leader Craig Kennedy guided the funeral home through a period of continued growth and stability until his retirement in 2006.
A new chapter began in 2009 when Jason McKerley and his wife, Laura Vickrey McKerley, became owners, bringing renewed energy and a strong small-town commitment to service. In 2015, Jason and Laura joined with Val Prescott to unite local funeral services under one name—forming DeLoach-McKerley-Prescott Funeral Home & Cremation Service and consolidating operations into the current facility at 220 East 6th Street in Waynesboro.
Today, the firm continues its long-standing tradition of compassionate care, professional teamwork, and community dedication—honoring the legacy established in 1941 while serving families with clarity, dignity, and respect.
