Zolene Burgett Foster, 81, of Waynesboro, Georgia, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on June 4, 2026.
Born in Borderland, West Virginia, to the late Walter Burgett and Patsy Runyon Burgett, Zolene grew up in Dan’s Branch Hollow in Borderland. She later moved to Waynesboro, Georgia, in 1963, where she met her husband of nearly 62 years, Joseph Andrew Foster, Sr., at the Piggly Wiggly.
Zolene will be remembered for her laughter, her ever-present joy and vibrance, and the genuine kindness she so freely shared with others. She had a beautiful way of making everyone feel seen, welcomed, and loved; she truly never met a stranger.
To those who knew her, she was warm and gracious, resilient and courageous. Her presence brought light and joy into every room she entered. She lived with an open heart, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and kindness that will endure with all who were blessed to know her.
Zolene deeply loved her husband, Joe. Together, they built a rich and beautiful life, one marked by love, devotion, and a generous spirit that they shared freely with so many others. She found immense joy in her family and treasured her roles as a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister.
As an active contributor to the community, she was a real estate agent with Shivers Real Estate for over 30 years after having worked at First National Bank. She was a faithful member of the Waynesboro First Methodist Church for over 20 years.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph A. Foster, Sr.; her sons, Andy Foster (Joanne), and Marc Foster (Christie); her grandchildren, Isaac Foster (Deidra), Abby Anderson (Brendan), and Owen Foster; her great-grandchildren, Ellie Anderson and Larkyn Foster; her sisters, Priscilla Palmer and Mary Vanoy (Dan); sister-in-law, Brenda Burgett; and close friend, Sara Saxon.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Irene “Sissy” Cox and Shelvie Booth; brothers, Walter “Junior” Burgett and George Burgett; and daughter-in-law, Heidi Jo Foster.
The family will receive friends from 5:00pm to 7:00pm on Sunday, June 7 at the funeral home. Funeral Services will be held 11:00am Monday, June 8 at Waynesboro First Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Waynesboro First Methodist Church Missions Committee in Zolene’s memory.
The family is deeply grateful to friends, caregivers, hospice, and all who offered love and support during this time.
