Ted Allen Montgomery, Sr.

Oct 2, 1949 — Jun 21, 2026

Ted Allen Montgomery, Sr., 76, entered into rest Sunday, June 21, 2026. He was born at University Hospital in Augusta, grew up in Hephzibah, and has been a longtime resident of Waynesboro. He earned a 2-year degree at Augusta Tech in Industrial Mechanical Systems and worked at Augusta Newsprint, retiring after 44 years of service. Ted was a member of Rosemont Baptist Church.

Growing up on the family farm in Hephzibah, his love of the outdoors took root. An avid fisherman, he often scouted and planned vacations near spots he wished to further explore.

Dependable as the sun's rising and constant as the North Star — Ted's word was his bond. He led by example, pointing the way to Christ through quiet, steady faith. His greatest joy was spending time with family, particularly his grandkids, and what a grandfather he was! Passing along wisdom in his kind, gentle way, at times mixing humor with a bit of mischief, he shared life lessons that will not soon be forgotten. A natural storyteller, every memory was funnier when retold by Papa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John R. and Mary Bates; and his biological father, Leck Montgomery, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Teresa Montgomery; three children, Ted Montgomery, Jr. (Jamie) of Waynesboro, Hayley Belk (Rodney) of Waynesboro, and Dean Easler (Tina) of Bennettsville, SC; nine grandchildren, Morgan and Caroline Montgomery, Mason, Gage, Jacob, Ella, Opal, and Lydia Belk, and Hanna Marshall; three great grandchildren, Xavier, Oliver, and Baker; three siblings, Jane Partridge of Waynesboro, Leck Montgomery III (Carol) of Metter, and Ann Brinkman (Charlie) of Hephzibah; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside Services will be held 11:00am Friday, June 26 at Burke Memorial Gardens with Rev. Bruce Allen officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Children's Miracle Network via Wellstar Golisano Children’s Hospital of Georgia.
