Stephen Duane Gladson Sr. (also known as Steve), 73, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2025. Born in Kitsap, Washington, on May 28, 1952, Stephen lived a life defined by service, resilience, and deep devotion to his family and friends.

Early in life, Stephen honorably served his country and was a veteran of the United States Army. He continued his dedication to service as a firefighter with the Tacoma, Washington, Fire Department, where he spent many years displaying courageous and selfless commitment to his community. After retiring from the fire department, he carried his everlasting work ethic into another career with Lovett Trucking Company in Waynesboro, Georgia.

In his golden years, Stephen found peace and purpose working on the family farm-always happiest on his tractor, wearing his cowboy hat, with coffee in hand. He enjoyed the simplicity of country life and the serenity of daily routines. He was an avid bowler and a proud member of several leagues at Bowlero in Augusta, Georgia, where he made lasting friendships through a shared love of competition and camaraderie. He also had a passion for travel and loved driving cross-country in his new truck and RV, returning home to Washington every summer.

Stephen's proudest title was that of a family man. He is survived by his loving wife, Freida Nunez-Gladson. He is also survived by his sisters, Valerie Morse of Tacoma, WA, and Bonnie Morse of Vernonia, OR; his brother, Dan Morse (Sandy) of Gig Harbor, WA; his daughter, Brandy Gladson (Jeff), and grandchildren, Avin and Amelie of Puyallup, WA; his son, Jacob Starkey of Florence, MT; and his bonus daughter, Heather Smith (Ben) of Yelm, WA, along with bonus grandchildren, Mackenzie, Brittany, and Hunter. Stephen also leaves behind numerous Morse cousins in Washington, as well as cousins Karen David of Guadalajara, Jalisco; Kelly Best of Southworth, WA; and Laura Wick of Palmer, AK. He is also survived by his best friend, Mike Morrissey of Issaquah, WA, whose lifelong friendship was a source of strength and endless joy.

Stephen's Georgia family brought him immense happiness and love in his later years. He is survived by his mother-in-law, Elsie-lovingly known as Mama-and children Tammy (Isaac), Marty (April), Anny (Lauro), Angel, and Ana (Dom). His grandchildren include Paghan, Young Isaac, Colby, Bailey (Sierra), Amber (Connor), Hope, Beth (Trevor), D.J., Ella, Makayla, Taylor, Jordan (Caleb), Abby Grace, Bryce (Madelyne), Broc, and Ophelia. He was a proud great-grandfather to Keaton, Lily, Teddy, Oliver, Marlee, Relli, and Saylor-affectionately known as "Papa's Girl."

Stephen was preceded in death by his beloved son, Stevie; his mother, Vivian Gladson Harris of Port Orchard, WA; his bonus dad, Leon Harris; his uncle, Gordon Gladson; and his grandparents, Gordon and Carola Gladson of Hawaii.

Stephen Duane Gladson Sr. will always be remembered for his quick wit, his unwavering dependability, and the wisdom he shared with those around him. His presence enriched the lives of all who knew him, and he leaves behind an unparalleled legacy of love, loyalty, and strength.

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." - 2 Timothy 4:7

In accordance with Steve's wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. A Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date, where family and friends can gather to honor and remember him. Details will be shared in the near future.
