Roger Thomas Self

Roger Thomas Self, 81, entered into rest in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loved ones. He was a native of Augusta and called Waynesboro home for 35 years. In the mid-eighties, through his faith in Jesus, he received the gift of salvation. He was a member of Botsford Baptist Church. Roger was an iron worker with the Augusta Local 709. His love of his trade was shown through his dedication to his career. He was a man of all trades and worked hard at all he did. Roger loved hunting, fishing, thrift shopping, visiting the beach with his sweetie, and eating oysters and low county boil. His favorite past time was spending time with his family and simply just sitting on his porch swing with his sweetie, enjoying the peace and quiet surrounded by the beauty of God’s creation. He was preceded in death by his parents, Amos and Opal Self; three siblings, Grady, Mary, and John Self.

He is survived by his loving girlfriend, whom he affectionately called “Sweetie”, Mary Alice Mobley; two children, Debra Smith (David) and Jeff Self; three grandchildren, Gary Smith (Courtney), Stephen Smith (Charla), and Heather Self (Chris); and three great grandchildren, Garrett, Grayson, and William.

Memorial Services will be held 2:00pm Friday, October 17 at Botsford Baptist Church with Rev. Eddie Taylor officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

The family will have a private graveside service at a later date.

Honorary Pallbearers will be James Flakes, Jack Lafoon, Jacky Holcomb, Kenny Holden, Brad Jones, and Kevin Petrie.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and supporting friends for their love and care during this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Botsford Baptist Church.
