Waynesboro, GA- Pauline "Polly" Watkins Jarvis DeLaigle, 83, entered into rest on Saturday, May 26, 2012. She was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on December 31, 1928. She was one of nine children born to the late Harmon Riley Watkins and the late Sarah Ann Smith Watkins. During her years in Alabama, she worked as a seamstress for Vanity Fair. She has lived in this area since 1968 and was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church. Polly always had a passion for gardening and painting.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Nick DeLaigle; two grandsons, Tony Eugene Williams, and Stephen Paul James; and three siblings, Troy Watkins, Madelene Watson, and Mae Swann.
She is survived by three children, Barbara James of Waynesboro, Thomas Jarvis of Grovetown, and David (Patricia) Jarvis of Waynesboro; four grandchildren, David Williams, Mark Jarvis, Roger Jarvis, and Dale Jarvis; seventeen great grandchildren; five siblings, Fausteen Russell, Ronald Watkins, Donald Watkins, Emogene Leonard, and Imogene Smith all of Alabama. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
The visitation will be Tuesday, May 29 from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
The funeral service will be Wednesday, May 30 at 3pm at South Haven Baptist Church, 4391 Peach Orchard Rd., Hephzibah, GA. 30815. Pastor Michael Rochester and Pastor Mike Andrews will officiate. She will lie in state at the church from 2-3pm. Interment will follow at Burke Memorial Gardens, Waynesboro. Her grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.
