Merle Arthur Doan

Merle Arthur Doan III, 60, entered into rest on Tuesday, May 19, 2026. He was born on January 7, 1966, to the late Art Doan and Joyce Countryman Wood. Merle worked as a hunting guide in the west before returning to Burke County and working as a handyman at Magruder as well as Knights Meat Company. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and adventurous stories.

Merle found great joy outdoors. He especially loved hunting and fishing. He had a special talent for handyman work and could fix almost anything. Friends and family often depended on his knowledge and skills.

He is survived by his aunt, Jane Houck of Ellijay, GA; siblings, Sharon Henderson of Huntsville, AL, DeWitt “Danny” Thompson (DebraSue) of Bay Minette, AL, Deborah Thompson DeLaigle of Indian Valley, VA, Shelton Doan (April) of Lucedale, MS, Velvet Spray of Summertown, GA, and Stephanie Riner of Swainsboro, GA; a host of nieces and nephews; stepmother, Sybil Doan of Midville, GA; and many close friends.

Memorial Services will be held at 4:00pm Saturday, May 30 in the funeral home chapel.
