Mary DeLaigle, 85, traded her pain for peace as she went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, August 22, 2025. She was born in Millen to the late Seaborn L. and Thelma Martin Foster, Sr. and was a longtime resident of Burke County. Mary was a faithful member of the Waynesboro Church of God. She was a God-Fearing woman, who was always praising Jesus, reading her Bible, and praying for everyone. For so long, she carried more pain than most of us will ever know, but if you met her, you’d never guess it. No matter the challenges she faced, she was always smiling, always laughing, and making jokes. Mary had a joy that was contagious. She was the heart of her family and welcomed everyone with open arms and a quick wit, filling every room with laughter and love. Her greatest pride was being “Grandma” to so many, creating a place where everyone felt cared for, loved, and above all prayed for. Though we will miss her smile, her encouragement, and her cheerful spirit, we take comfort in knowing she is now whole, pain-free, and rejoicing in Heaven. Her legacy is simple but powerful: trust God, love your family, and never forget to smile. We rejoice knowing we will see her again one day. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Annie Louise and Norman Martin; and a sister, Jane Foster Hillis.
She is survived by a daughter, Penny DeLaigle of Waynesboro; a granddaughter, Sheena Gavlinski Alfred (James) of Waynesboro; two great granddaughters, Kayleigh Elliott and Taylor James both of Waynesboro; a sister, Ann Foster Harbin (Frank) of Katy, TX; a brother, S. Lewis Foster (Cyndi) of Chester, MD; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services will be held 4:30pm Thursday, August 28 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Matt Wigley officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
