Marian Elizabeth Fulcher Purkey, “Mrs. Betty”, 83, joined her husband Paul and oldest son Robby in heaven on Tuesday January 6, 2026. Born August 20, 1942, to Robert and Lucy Fulcher, she spent her life dedicated to teaching. The impact she left on her students was profound and lasting.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Michael, daughter in law, Hope, nephew, Lee Fulcher, her grandchildren, JB Henshall, Gatlin, Lucy, and Kate Purkey, several lifelong friends and generations of students from Hephzibah Middle and High Schools.
The family will receive friends from 1:00pm to 3:00pm Saturday, January 10 at the First Methodist Church in Waynesboro. Funeral Services will be held at 3:00pm Saturday, January 10 at the church with John Bearden and Rev. Keith Cox officiating. Burial will follow at Magnolia Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie Johnson, Barrett Wimberly, Kade Johnson, Brant Albritton, Ted Montgomery, and Paul Thompson.
In lieu of flowers, the family humbly asks that donations be made to a GoFundMe account that was created by friends to help offset the expense of her prolonged hospital stay and funeral expenses. Link: https://gofund.me/f8d196a32.
