Joyce Johnson

Joyce Johnson, 76, entered into rest Sunday, November 23, 2025, at Brentwood Nursing Home surrounded by her family. She was born on August 14, 1949, in Statesboro, GA to the late James Riggs and Daisy Deal Riggs Edenfield and has been a longtime resident of Waynesboro. She was known for her cooking, especially her pimento cheese and Rice Krispy treats. 

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Ernest “Ernie” Johnson; two sons, Calvin Johnson and Rob Johnson (Megan); six grandchildren, Chloe Lanier, Ava Johnson, Rolie Kate Johnson, Tyler Etherton, Gavin Johnson, and Braxton Johnson; four siblings, Sherry Barefield (Johnny), Polly Lively (Tim), JR Riggs (Chari), and Jimmy Riggs (Margie); several nieces and nephews; many others that affectionally knew her as “Nana”; and her beloved dogs, Reese and Oliver.

Funeral Services will be held at 3:00pm Wednesday, November 26 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Bruce Allen officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be her nephews Josh Riggs, Brent Lively, John Barefield, Auston Riggs, Brandon Lively, and Chase Flakes.
