Mr. Jake Smith, 64, passed away Thursday, September 24, 2015 at University Hospital.
He was a native of Dixie Union, Georgia, and had been a resident of Waycross and Washington, Georgia before moving to Waynesboro in 1981. Jake owned several businesses in Waynesboro including Smith's Big Chick, Goldsmith's Jewelry, and H&L Menswear. He joined Salter Building Supply Inc. in 2000 where he was still employed at his death.
Jake was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Waynesboro and served on the Church Council. He loved the outdoors, working in his beautiful yard, wood working, boating on the lake, and grilling for his family and friends. He was an extremely devoted father and loving husband. He was the happiest when surrounded by his family. At the time of his death, he was surrounded by family and friends as his soul ascended peacefully into heaven.
Survivors of Jake include his wife, Holly Land Smith of Waynesboro; his sons, Joseph Felton "Jody" Smith III and his wife Sarah of Augusta; Jamie Ernest Smith and his wife Mallory of Waynesboro; and Landon Maxwell Smith of Waynesboro; his sister, Patricia King of Brunswick; and his grandchildren, Griffin Paul Smith, Lydia Grace Smith, and Honor Elizabeth Smith.
Visitation will be Saturday, September 26, 2015 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at DeLoach-McKerley-Prescott Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, September 27, 2015 at First United Methodist Church with Reverend Craig Hutto officiating. Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Gardens.
Active Pallbearers are Dr. Frank Carter, David Cooper, David DuMars, Jerry Lucas, Al Perkins, Jerry Salter, Greg Salter, and Mickey Stewart.
Honorary Pallbearers are the Edmund Burke Academy 2016 Senior Class.
