Jimmie Barefield

Jimmie Roger Barefield, 88, passed away on March 22, 2026, after a brief illness. Born on August 4, 1937, he lived a full and meaningful life marked by dedication to his family, his work, and his passions.

Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents, Roger and Evelyn Lively Barefield; and his siblings, Joyce Hayes, Gladys Stone, and Al Barefield.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Sally Holton Barefield; his sister, Elizabeth (Scott) Gossett; and his brother, Johnny (Sherrie) Barefield. He also leaves behind his sons, Michael (Tina) Barefield of Savannah and Mitch (Jennifer) Barefield of Greenville, South Carolina. Jimmy was a proud grandfather to three grandchildren, Mitchell Barefield, Samuel Barefield, and Sarah Barefield, who brought him great joy.

Jimmie retired from the United States Postal Service after 35 years of dedicated service. He will be fondly remembered by many for his time playing in the local “No Name Band,” sharing his love of music with his community. Others will recall his pride and devotion to his yards, as well as the many yards rushed on the Waynesboro High School football field. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Memorial Services will be held 2:00pm Wednesday, March 25 in the funeral home chapel with Greg Coursey and Rev. Bruce Allen officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
