Jacqueline Dorothy Kelley Thompson "Jackie" went to be with the Lord on April 23, 2016 and joined her husband Robert "Bob" Courtright Thompson, her mother Ruby Alma Rackley Kelley, her father James Raymond Kelley Sr., her brother James Raymond "Ray"Kelley and many other loved ones.
Jackie was born in Miami, Florida on September 10, 1929. Because of her parents needing to work during the great depression, she spent her first five years with her paternal grandparents. Her fondest memory of that time was being able to pick a rose each day from their garden. Five years later her brother Ray was born, so she moved back home to grow up together. As she grew, summers would be spent visiting her cousin Betty Parker Robinson in Sardis, GA and other relatives. At 12 while engaging in her favorite activity of roller skating, she met her future husband. Their friendship continued growing until they were married when she turned 18. Jackie worked during the time Bob was enlisted in the Korean conflict. He returned early to care for his dying mother. Robin Lynn Thompson (Kimler) was born five years later and Bruce Ray Thompson arrived 2 years after her.She stayed home in Hialeah, Florida with her children until they moved to a bigger home in South Miami, where she became a secretary until retiring.
In the mid 70s she received Christ as her Savior and began attending church faithfully with Bob.Jackie joined Bob in 1975 who because of the recession, went with Bruce to work in Colorado and later California. They eventually returned to Sardis, Ga. to take care of her mother and brother and lived there until 2012 when Jackie moved to live with her daughter, Robin, in Arkansas. A highlight for her was living at the Gardens at Arkanshire, an independent living facility.
Jackie was known as a "character" by anyone who knew her. She loved to joke and tease with anyone who also enjoyed teasing. She knew how to stand her ground and speak her opinion. She was very giving, a great encouragement to her children and grandchildren and prayed for them regularly. She loved to give and receive hugs. While young, Jackie loved to have a good time and would go faithfully to the Everglades with Bob and Bruce and friends to hunt and spend weekends and holidays. She should have been an honorary member of Wal-Mart because of her frequent visits and support. Jackie loved her family very much and will be deeply missed by all. We are so grateful for the impact she had on all of our lives.
In addition to her children, she will leave her 12 grandchildren Sarah Thompson, Bruce Thompson II, Laura Thompson Pliske, Joshua Thompson, Josiah Kimler, Amanda Thompson, Rachelle Kimler Latter, Micah Kimler, David Luke Kimler, Jonathan Thompson, Abigail Kimler and Joanna Kimler. Her great grandchildren are Lynnsie, Liam, Lee Ann, Bruce III, Kiley, Darian and one on the way.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm on Thursday, April 28, 2016 at Sardis Baptist Church in Sardis, GA. In lieu of flowers a special fund has been set up in memory of her through Global Worship, 2434 McRay Avenue, Springdale, AR 72762.
