Harold "Brother" Roof passed away on February 12, 2026, at Pineview Nursing Home in Sylvania after spending most of his life at his residence in Waynesboro. He was born on September 5, 1942, with Cerebral Palsy but he overcame many challenges to live a full and meaningful life.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Harold Roof, Sr. and Deweese Mobley Roof. His father ran a thriving business called Waynesboro Machine Shop, where they did welding, sharpened blades, and served many farmers throughout the area. His mother was a member of the Garden Club and kept her house and yard looking great and her family well-fed.
Harold was raised in the Presbyterian Faith and a devoted Christian with a positive outlook. Even though he lived with pain and other physical problems, he told lots of jokes to everyone who visited his father's business or his home. When Harold graduated from high school, he was one of the smartest students in Waynesboro. Though his disabilities limited him, he helped his father in the business in every way he could.
Harold cherished all of his Roof and Mobley cousins throughout his life and always wanted to know they were doing well. He enjoyed talking with family and friends at every opportunity. He collected model cars and enjoyed running his Lionel Train set. Also, he followed car racing and the Georgia Bulldogs Football team.
Special thanks is given to Phyllis Mobley Saurman, the late Jack Markwalter, Sr., the late Harold "Bo" Herrington, Don DeLaigle, and Tom Plowden, who contacted him often to check on his wellbeing. Many thanks are expressed to everyone who took the time to brighten Harold's day since he lived alone for many years.
Gratitude is expressed by the family to Burke Health, Wellstar MCG Hospital, Pineview Nursing Home and Georgia Hospice for their compassionate care during his recent illness. Much gratitude is given to Shriners Children's Hospital in Greenville, South Carolina who served Roof well when he was a child. Since Shriners helped him in a time of need, he is leaving over half of his estate to Shriners. A good way to honor his memory is to donate to Shriners Children's Hospital. Harold "Brother" Roof will live on through the lives he touches with his generosity.
Visitation will be Saturday, February 14 from 10:00 AM-12:00 Noon at Deloach-McKerley-Prescott Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 12 Noon in the Chapel with Rev. Bill Kent officiating. Burial will follow at Magnolia Cemetery.
