Eddie Cecil Godbee 71, of Sardis GA, entered into rest on Monday, May 05, 2026. He was the son of the late Emory Andrew Godbee and the late Mary Genieva Clarke Godbee of Girard GA. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Charlotte Denise Godbee; their only child, Ethelene Denise Godbee (Joseph Saxon); and three grandsons, Sebastian Monroe Cannon, Makaveli Anthony Cannon, and Joseph Edward Saxon Jr. (JJ) all of Sardis GA.
Eddie had quite a large family whom he loved dearly. His brothers were Jasper Oris Godbee (late Doyce Williams Godbee), Thomas Jefferson Godbee (Teresa Fanbroiu) and the late Emory Andrew Godbee Jr. “Cotton Top”. His sisters were Mary Teresa Godbee Sikes (late Donnie Sikes), Sandra Lynn Miller (John Miller), Connie Godbee Wheeler (late Randy Wheeler), and Nannie Rene Godbee Farrer (late David Farrer). He had several nieces and nephews - Ronnie Jenkins, Mary Ann Dixon, Kelly Barton, Jessica Godbee, Mikey Farrer, Sabrina Farrer, Gary Murdock, Amber Wheeler, Little Dean, JJ, Amy, Renee, Deidra Tucker, and her brother Jamie - all of which he loved dearly and made many hilarious memories with. He also had several great and great-great nieces and nephews, too many to count. His brother and sister in-laws were Robbie Weeks, Duke Weeks, and Kathy Weeks, whom he hung around with well before marrying Charlotte. He enjoyed much time with his brothers and sisters over the years and were best friends to all of them. Each and every one held a different, but very special place in his heart.
He loved to fish, swim, grill, crack jokes, and just bring a smile to everyone's face. Most importantly, he loved gardening and was known for his beautiful and abundant garden. Everyone knew about Eddie's garden, even people from different counties would brag about how beautiful it was and wanted to know his secret. It was his love for people. I would always ask, "Daddy, why don’t you sell some of these vegetables and make you a little money?" His answer was always very serious, and always the same. "It grows better when I give it away." Daddy had a heart of gold and would give anything to anyone even though he didn't have much himself. He loved living life to the fullest, making people smile, and just being ol crazy Eddie as many would call him. He spent many days with lots of friends, especially the Perry's in potlikker, where he requested some of his ashes be left behind. There were many more people whom he spent time with and cherished friendships over the years, Glenn Odom, Billy Mac Brown, Adolphis Morris, his brother Toby, and the list goes on. He will be deeply missed. Especially his kind ways, his laughter, and lending hands. As we hang our heads low with sadness, wishing time would have stood still in those moments, just know Eddie is grinning wide, with an out of tune guitar in hand, black coffee and a cigarette in the other, looking as his beautiful green garden, wondering where he will plant something next, and waiting on grandma to call him for supper. I wish everyone were more like my daddy. We love you!
Off you Go, Eddie!
