Donald Lee Thames “Duck”, 67, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, July 16, 2025. He was a native and lifelong resident of Burke County. As a true country boy, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, mud-bogging, county music, and could always be found tinkering with an engine somewhere. Duck worked as a millwright for many years with Battle Lumber, International Paper, Kimberly Clark, and Louisiana Pacific. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Lizzy Thames.
He is survived by a son, Donald “DJ” Thames, Jr. (Jessica) of Waynesboro; three grandchildren; two sisters, Janice Liles (Ebbie) and Glennis Daniel (Larry) both of Waynesboro; several nieces and nephews; and a long list of cousins, who were more like siblings.
The family will receive friends from 5:00pm to 7:00pm Monday, July 21 at the funeral home. Funeral Services will be held 11:00am Tuesday, July 22 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Bruce Allen and Glenn Thames. Burial will follow at Corinth Christian Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Logan Herrington, Nick Herrington, Derrick Liles, Grant Liles, Garrett Liles, Bryson Daniel, and Ivan Heatwole.
Remembrances may be made to Corinth Chrisitan Church or to a charity of one’s choice.
