David Edenfield passed away at his home in Vidalia, GA on Wednesday, February 18, 2026. A resident of Waynesboro for many years, he also lived in Atlanta and Augusta.
David was named the 1973 Star student for the Burke County School System and enrolled in Georgia Tech that same year.
He was a devoted, lifelong member of the Southern Company family, celebrating 50 years of service in 2024. His career began in 1974 as a cooperative education student while attending college. Upon earning his bachelor’s in electrical engineering in 1978, he launched a distinguished career that spanned Georgia Power and Southern Nuclear.
He was still an active and vital part of the team at the time of his passing, truly "keeping the lights on" until the very end. He leaves behind a legacy of mentorship, technical brilliance, and a deep-seated commitment to the community he helped power for five decades.
David is survived by his mother, Christine Edenfied; siblings, Lee Edenfield (Susie), Mary Harrison, and John Edenfield (Monica); 8 nieces and nephews, Christopher Edenfield (Katy), Heather O’Rourke (Chris), Tony Chance (Jamie), Jamie Kimberlin (Nate), Jonathan Edenfield (Rachel), Maggie Edenfield, Megan Edenfield, and Makayla Sanders (Emory). He is further survived by his aunt, Mary Merrill of Asheville, NC; 7 cousins; and 9 great-nieces and -nephews.
The service will be held at 4pm on March 8, 2026, at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Waynesboro, GA.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Tree Ministries to support his niece Maggie Edenfield’s missionary work in Guatemala. www.treeminitries.org
