Clara Bell Oliver McClain

Clara Bell Oliver McClain, 96, died on Monday, August 11, 2025, at the home of her daughter. She was born on March 16, 1929, in Metter to the late Thomas Watson and Mary Powell Oliver. She was married to the late Alvin H. McClain, Sr. Clara Bell was currently a member of Dry Branch Baptist Church but spent most of her life as a member of Bethel Baptist Church. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, William B. McClain; a daughter, Gerald Ann Clayton; two sons-in-law, David E. Clayton and Glynn Bassett; five brothers, William “Billy” Oliver, Paul “Sonny” Oliver, Ernest “Spot” Oliver, T.W. Oliver, and Floyd Oliver; and two sisters, Dolly Oliver Antrican and Eva Oliver Collins.

She is survived by two sons, Al McClain and his wife Louise and Mark McClain all of Alexander; two daughters, Gail Bassett of Perkins and Karen Lovett and her husband Johnny of Alexander; 18 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside Services will be held 11:00am Wednesday, August 13 at Bethel Baptist Cemetery with Gary Jenkins and Rev. Tim Fields. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Bonnie Jenkins, Burke Health, and Pruitt Health Hospice for all their great care of Clara.
