Cameron Stanley Upchurch Gunter, 63 passed away peacefully at her childhood home in Waynesboro, GA on Friday May 15, 2026. She was born April 17, 1963, in Waynesboro, GA to Sarah and Henderson Upchurch. She attended Edmund Burke Academy before graduating in 1981. She continued her education at the University of Georgia in Athens, GA where she achieved her bachelor's degree in advertising from the College of Journalism in 1985; where she also met her former husband and father of her two boys; Charles Gunter.
Cameron was survived by her two loving sons, Walter Carlyle Gunter and Augustas Upchurch Gunter; her mother, Sarah Stanley Upchurch; her sister, Hadley Upchurch Harrison (Dorroh); nieces and nephew, Elizabeth Broxton (Jonathan), Abby Taylor Harrison, and Blake Harrison; three great nephews, Brooks Broxton, Blain Broxton, and Brandt Broxton, and her beloved dog, Tux.
Cameron held many different positions throughout her career but none were more important to her than being the most devoted mother she could be. In 1993, after having her first child - Walt, and then in 1996 her second – Gus, she decided to devote her life to raising her two sons full-time.
In 2019, she moved back to her hometown of Waynesboro, GA to serve as primary caretaker of her late father Henderson Upchurch and her mother Sarah. During her time in Waynesboro, she enjoyed spending time with her friends, taking spontaneous trips together with them, and having her family all under one roof for the holidays, Thanksgiving especially!
Cameron enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, painting, going on trips to the beach, helping her great nephews with homework and projects, and above all, spending time with her two sons and her dog, which were the lights of her life. Cameron will be sorely missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her over the years. Her profound impact on the people’s lives that she touched cannot be measured or quantified.
Memorial Services will be held 3:00pm Thursday, May 21 at Waynesboro First Methodist Church with Rev. Keith Cox officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
