Betty Helms Black

Betty Helms Black, 76, entered into rest Saturday, May 16, 2026. She was born in Vidette and has been a lifelong resident of Burke County. She was a member of Rosemont Baptist Church. Betty was an avid gardener and loved cooking and birdwatching. She enjoyed vacationing at the beach. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents, Huey Lee and Addie Mae Thomas Helms; and a brother, Huey Lee Helms, Jr.

She is survived by two children, Renee Wilson (Norman) of Millen and Gene Thomas (Shannon) of North Augusta; four grandchildren, Justin Wilson (Brittany) of Millen, Zachary Wilson (Madison) of Millen, Alexandria Powell of Augusta, and Brock Thomas (Christina) of Dearing; four great grandchildren, John Michael Wilson, Noah Wilson, Grayson Wilson, and Ronan Powell; a sister, Sandra Screws (Tom) of Swainsboro; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral Services will be held 1:00pm Saturday, May 23 at Rosemont Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Flowers officiating. Burial will follow at 2:30pm at Rose Dhu in Vidette. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be Robert Williford, Jeff Phillips, Bill Cobb, Richie McClellan, Eric Braswell, and Billy Johnson.

Remembrances may be made to Rosemont Baptist Church.
